Jessie Vondra was born January 6, 1893. Jessie's birth information says she was born in Goudeville, South Dakota. Jessie was the 11th child born to Marie Sedlacek and John Vondra.

The Sedlacek Family from Mlynec, Polen, Plzen, Bohemia

Jakub Sedláček was born October 9, 1818, Mlynec, Polin, Plzen, Bohemia. November 19, 1837 Jakub married Josepha Markova (Marek), born 24 August 1811 in Mlynec, Polin, Plzen, Bohemia.

Jakub's (born 1818) parents were Jakub Sedláček (born 1800) and Dorota Schleisova.

Josepha's parents were Bartoloměj Marek and Kateřina Kleisnerová.

Jakub Sedláček and Josepha Josefa Marková had 7 known children:

1. Jiří Sedláček, born 14 September, 1838 at the Sedlacek home, Mlynec house 6.

Jiri (translates as George in English) married Katerina Fisher. As the oldest son, Jiri inherited the family home and property. Jiri died 13 May 1872 from polio at the age of 33. Jiri and Katerina had two sons, Jan (John) and Vaclav (James). Katerina, as his widow, became the heir to the family property. Widowed Katerina married Karel Blahnik and had 4 more known children. The family property now became the property of Karel and Katerina Blahnik.

2. Anna Sedláčková was born 10 Jul 1840 at the Sedlacek home. Anna died at the age of 17 on 21 December 1857.

3. Vaclav Sedlacek was born in 1842 and died 1863, at the age of 20 from a stomach ailment. It could have been an appendicitis, cancer, an ulcer or another ailment. The death record is not specific, because it is possible that it was unknown.

4. Joseph Sedlacek was born in 1845 at the Sedlacek home and died in Chicago, Illinois in 1917. Joseph was the first known family member to go to America. He arrived in 1866. He married Mary Loula and had 15 children.

5. Jakub Sedlacek was born in 1850. He was the second family member to go to America. He followed his brother to Chicago.  Jakub married Julia Jandus and they had one son, Bohumil (Fred). Jakub and Julia divorced shortly after Bohumil's birth. Jakub moved to Wisconsin and married Anna Matek. Jakub and Anna had 12 children. Jakub worked as a carpenter and a music teacher in Wisconsin, in addition to having a farm. Jakub died in 1919 in Wisconsin.

6. Josepha (Josephine) Sedlacekova was born in 1852 at the Sedlacek home. Josepha followed her two brothers to Chicago where she married Vojtech (Albert) Mencl. Albert and Josephine had 10 children. Josephine died in 1929.

7. Marie Sedlacekova was born in 1856 at the Sedlacek home. Marie married Jan (John) Vondra November 16, 1875. John and Marie moved to the United States in 1884, settling for a short time in Chicago, and later moving to South Dakota. Marie died in 1912.

In looking at the family information and death dates, at the time that Marie was married, her parents, two oldest brothers and oldest sister were deceased. At the same time, her three surviving siblings were in America. She was the only person from her immediate family in Bohemia. Surviving family members included her sister-in-law, Katerina Fisher Sedlacekova Blahnik and two nephews. There were aunts, uncles, cousins and more still in the area.

It is unknown how John and Marie's marriage was arranged, as this was not uncommon in those times.

Frank Vondra 1886 - 1929

Frank Vondra lived a relatively short life. He, like all of his brothers, was never married and had no children.

Frank's actual birth year is not clear, unless or until a birth record is found for him. South Dakota, where Frank was born, did not begin keeping birth records until 1905, about 20 years after he was born. The documents which are attached in this post show inconsistency in the year he was born.

Frank was a twin. His twin brother died at birth and was buried on the prairie close to the home where the family was living in Eden Township, Hyde County, South Dakota.

The first document that is found for Frank is the 1900 census. He is shown to be 13 years old, born in South Dakota.

The 1905 census card for Frank shows that he is 18 years old. He is living with his family in Union Township, in Hyde County, South Dakota. He is male, white, single, can read and can write.

The father: Jakub Sedlacek, the peasant farmer in Mlynec No. 6, the son of Jakub Sedlacek, retired from Mlynec No. 6, thte district Plzen, the county Klatovy, and the mother Dorota, nee Schleis, from the village Hluboka, the district Plzen, the county Nova Kdyne.

The mother: Josefa, the daughter of deceased Bartolomej Marek, retired from Mlynec No. 21, and the mother, Katerina, nee Kleisner from the village Malechov, the district Plzen, the county Klatovy.

Baptised: P. Josef Vrba, on 25.2.1856.

The godfathers - Vaclav Lang, the half-farmer from Bukova No. 13

                            Marie Rajsl, the farmer from Slavikov No. 17

The midwife: Anna Srastna, tested, from Polen.

The brothers and the sisters - all were born in Mlynec No. 6:

The note: the oldest of all siblings - George, took the farm. All other alive siblings left toto USA.

The list of Marie's siblings is in reverse of what we are accustomed to. We see the lists always with oldest to youngest in all genealogy work. This is a little confusing.

7. George (Jiri) born 14.9.1838 and died 13.5.1872 from smallpox. Jiri was married to ______ and had two sons before his death. Dorota later married and the family continued to live in the Sedlacek family home at Mlynec no. 6.
